Kids' Fun Day!!!

Yesterday we had a Kids’ Fun Day in Durban, South Africa! We invite the local churches to bring their children to participate and their high schoolers to volunteer, creating an evangelistic opportunity as well as an opportunity for Christian service. The kids play games to win prizes, but most importantly, we take a break during the day to share the gospel message! We had 70 children in attendance and around 27 decisions for Christ!

April Hawkins' Headlines

Sanibonani from South Africa!

We are excited to share with you a little of our ministry over the past few months and a glimpse into a few opportunities that are to come!

BattleZone Camp was in March. There were 50 people with staff and students. Our theme was Bible Origins, and we were excited to have guest speaker, executive director of Voice of the Martyrs South Africa Ashley Illman. We were reminded how special the Word of God is, but also how privileged we are to be able to have a copy, the ability to use it in the open, and to worship freely. Here is a testimony from one of the campers:

The impact that BattleZone Camp had in my life was quite profound. It made me realize how privileged we are to have access to the Bible, because so many people do not. I also found it amazing how despite the persecution Christians face in so many countries, they are still so eager to use every opportunity they get to meet together and grow in their faith, even though this may result in death. This caused me to do some self evaluation and I'd say, I've really learnt to not take the privilege of being able to go to church and having the Bible for granted, as well as the importance of praying for the persecuted Christians.
Sfeziwe Buthelezi, age 15

Over the last few months, I have had various opportunities to fill the pulpit in local churches as well as teach the students at Durban Bible College. It is a privilege to teach both about the Word of God and the importance of youth ministry in the local church!

Kids’ Fun Day is happening on 18 May! This is an evangelistic event that provides the opportunity for local churches to reach out and invite other children to come together for a day of fun, games, and food as an avenue to share the gospel. This event requires over 20 teen and adult volunteers to help the day run smoothly. Please pray that everything falls into place and the weather cooperates for this outside event.

March Hawkins' Headlines

Here's a quick update from WOL Durban! We are surviving a hot, humid summer and enjoying being busy in ministry.

Brad has been busy preaching and teaching in local churches. He has had quite a few opportunities to fill the pulpit for local pastors. Also, he has just started training the youth leaders from a church new to Word of Life and there are two other churches almost ready to start training. Between training new churches and keeping up with discipleship of those using Word of Life materials, it keeps him on his toes!

Our Timothy Discipleship Program has been moving along nicely, meeting once a month with 3 young men. We now have a group of young ladies ready to start! It is so thrilling to see young people serious about growing in their faith and becoming more Christ-like.

Excitingly, the property project is moving along nicely, with all of the progress being paperwork. We are ready to see some visible changes to the property, but we know that having plans engineered and submitted properly are an important foundation! The building plans will be submitted at the end of this month, and hopefully, they will be approved quickly so that as soon as funds are available we can start on the first building project. Please contact us if you would like to give toward this project. We will post pictures on our blog, as well as on Facebook.

Mary has just finished teaching a term of Ladies' Bible Study at church on Spiritual Gifts. It is always a pleasure to teach the Word of God. She continues to homeschool Marissa (Grade 11) & Mya (Grade 6), as well as running the children’s youth at church, and serving on the worship team. Recently, Mary has applied to Calvary University to complete her Bachelor's Degree in Biblical Counseling! Please pray for wisdom and time management. We have seen such a need for Biblical Counseling in our ministry here in South Africa, and she is so excited at the opportunity to help meet this need.

Currently Brandon is on spring break from his sophomore year at the Word of Life Bible Institute (WOLBI). He has the privilege of going to Taiwan on a 10 day missions trip with his classmates from April 18-28. You can find more details at http://give.wol.org/bhawkins. He will finish his academic studies at WOLBI in May. During the summer, he will spend 8 weeks in ministry at the Word of Life Camp in Florida.

In South Africa, coming up next on our calendar is BattleZone Camp March 28-30 - a short camp to prepare our teens for the battle of living for Christ in their daily lives. Subsequently, on 11 May, we have Kids’ Fun Day. This is a great evangelistic opportunity that we run for our churches to bring children and their unsaved friends. Please pray that both of these events run smoothly and God is glorified.

Kids' Fun Day

We had 47 children come and 12 salvation decisions. We also had close to 20 volunteers help run the day. Thank you! We couldn't do this without you. So grateful to God to keep the rain away until just after we finished. Please pray for the leaders in the local churches as they follow up with the children.

Kids' Fun Day

We had an amazing Kids' Fun Day on Saturday! We couldn't have done it without the help from the team from Joburg and all the volunteers from the local churches here in Durban! The volunteers jumped right in and amazed us with their willingness to serve. We had 53 kids attend, 11 salvation decisions and 6 kids counseled for assurance of their salvation. Thank you for your prayers!

Olympians Games Day

Thank you for praying for our second Olympian Games Day this year! We had 95 in attendance and 21 salvation decisions! I sat outside and listened to the gospel being shared in different languages and my heart just welled up with His praise at the privilege to be used by Him.
